About me

I'm a PhD student in mathematical physics at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Based in Madrid, I'm a member of the Geometrical Mathematical Physics Research Group, where I conduct my research under the supervision of Jordi Gaset, focusing on foundational questions of physics from a mathematical point of view.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Physics and a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics. Over the course of my studies, my interests have gradually shifted towards mathematical physics. In particular, I am interested in the foundations of physical theories and in the development of mathematically consistent formulations of quantum field theory grounded in the geometrical structures that arise in classical field theory. Ultimately, I hope this line of research can contribute to a deeper understanding of fundamental physics, including the longstanding problem of quantum gravity.

My interest in mathematics and physics also extends beyonds its technical aspects, particularly in questions concerning the foundations and epistemological limits of scientfic knowledge. For this reason, I also participate in Kantian project, where we explore these questions from a Kantian perspective.

My full name is Marco Díaz Maceda (/ˈmaɾ.ko ˈdi.aθ maˈθe.ða/). Díaz is my paternal surname and Maceda my maternal surname. Since Díaz is a relatively common surname, I generally use my second surname when abbreviating or referring to my name (e.g, Mr. Maceda, M. D. Maceda or D. Maceda, Marco).

Outside academia, I play rugby, from which I enjoy the combination of physicality with technique and strategy with teamwork. I also play the electric guitar in a band together with other students of our research group. The music I enjoy to listen is hard rock and metal. The following playlist is a selection of music I like listening to, with one representative for each equivalence class. Among classical works, my favourite piece is Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 (New World Symphony). I also enjoy playing video games. Here you can find my Steam profile.

Below, you can find some photos of me and my friends, as well as a map showing all the cities I’ve visited in connection with my research.
